PHILOSOPHY
We know that coming to treatment at Cedars requires a major commitment of time and financial resources. Our commitment is to do everything we possibly can to ensure that your decision to put yourself in our care results in you getting a great start on a full recovery and a renewed ability to lead a meaningful and rewarding life.
We understand addiction is a chronic and progressive brain disease that no one intended to acquire. We also know that inpatient treatment is an acute intervention in the addiction process and like other chronic illnesses, long term management will be necessary. Ultimate success is likely when the treatment process from intervention through primary care at Cedars and Continuing Care ensures that sound disease management strategies are in place.
The major steps in the recovery process are clearly described and the methods for achieving success are well understood. However, we know that individuals are unique and that this is a very complex illness, often accompanied by other mental and physical health issues. All people are not the same and to be successful, the treatment plan must take into account the unique aspects of each individual. A treatment plan that works well for one person could have a very poor outcome for another.
Continually assessing individual needs and tailoring treatment strategies to help each patient to be successful is the hallmark of treatment at Cedars. Reading assignments and group therapy may be a great benefit to one person but someone else may require experiential therapies, equine facilitated psychotherapy or work with a yoga instructor or personal fitness trainer. Still others will require the assistance of Dr. Amen’s work utilizing SPECT scans or the advanced technology of EEG assisted Brain Training to achieve the steps known to ensure recovery. Some may require medication to assist them in order to make progress in this difficult but very rewarding journey.
Whether the individual suffers from an addiction to the legal or illegal drugs or alcohol, an addictive relationship with food, sex, gambling, the internet or even to work, we know that a thorough evaluation of the entire physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health must be the starting point of a sound treatment plan. This evaluative process will be on-going during someone’s stay at Cedars. Evaluating the whole person is essential to designing a treatment plan that will see someone getting a great start on a full recovery.
At Cedars, we also believe that abstinence from drugs or addictive behaviours is just the starting point. Abstinence is not recovery. You can recover mental and physical health, family relationships, careers and reputations. You can also recover a life filled with meaning and the endless possibilities that are presented when you become capable of fully participating in the experience of being human. The staff at Cedars believe it is an extreme privilege and a great responsibility to be able join you during this difficult but exciting journey of the spirit towards a full recovery of your life’s possibilities.
Testimonials
When I first came to Cedars I was unsure if anyone could help me. I was so lost in my addiction I no longer wanted to live. My life now is truly better. I have confidence again and a positive outlook on life. All the things I used to worry about no longer haunt me. Cedars gave me the tools I needed to be successful in my new life without drugs or alcohol. They also helped me find out who I really am; a friendly, caring, compassionate human being. Thanks to everyone at Cedars I now have a (promising) future. The staff and my peers at Cedars are some of the greatest people I have ever met. Thank you, I love you all!

Going through Cedars has helped me see that my life doesn’t have to be unmanageable and out of control. These days I hold my head up high I’m not shy, not scared and not alone, lost most of my anxiety and am no longer a menace to society. Cedars helped me put my feet back on the ground and gave me a solid foundation for my recovery. I still have the challenges and hurdles of everyday life to deal with; but I deal with all these without the use of alcohol or drugs (so much easier)! When I first walked in to Cedars I felt welcomed! The office staff, support staff, kitchen staff, gym instructor, Doctors and the of course the Counsellors are all world class! The friends I made at Cedars are all still a huge part of my new life. I now wake up every morning with a good conscience, knowing I do not have to say sorry too all the people I would have hurt if I was drinking. My work and family life are much better; I am reliable and a safe person to work with, I have a lot of patience and now have true feelings. In closing I would like to say thank you to all Cedars staff for saving my life!!

I am very grateful for my sobriety. My sobriety is due to my treatment at Cedars & joining Alcoholics Anonymous. I attend three AA meetings a week – everyone is so friendly and united. It is the most fantastic organization in the world. I am so grateful to Cedars for introducing me to AA and for being a part of journey of my recovery. Thanks for my sobriety!
